Course Description:This course explores the critical role of nutrition in the health and development of mothers, infants, and young children. It examines the nutritional needs during preconception, pregnancy, lactation, infancy, and early childhood, with an emphasis on the first 1,000 days of life as a window of opportunity for long-term health outcomes.Learners will gain an understanding of maternal dietary requirements, breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding, micronutrient deficiencies, and interventions to prevent malnutrition. The course also addresses the socio-cultural, economic, and policy factors influencing nutrition, with a focus on low- and middle-income settings.Through a combination of lectures, case studies, and practical applications, participants will develop the knowledge and skills to assess nutritional status, design nutrition programs, and promote evidence-based practices in maternal and child health.
